Fiber optics
How to choose an SFP or SFP+ module
Compare speed, fiber type, connector, wavelength and reach before ordering optical modules in Mozambique.
The speed must be compatible
SFP is commonly used for 1 Gbps and SFP+ for 10 Gbps, but the equipment port determines what can be installed. An SFP+ port does not automatically accept every module or speed.
- Confirm the exact switch, router or converter model.
- Check the speed and compatibility stated by the manufacturer.
- Do not choose only by the physical module format.
Fiber, connector and distance
Multimode and single-mode modules use different optics. Connector type, wavelength and distance must also match. With BiDi modules, both ends form a pair with complementary wavelengths.
- State whether the fiber is single-mode or multimode.
- Provide the approximate link distance.
- Send photos of existing module labels where possible.
Avoid compatibility problems
For a quotation, send the equipment model at each end, speed, fiber type, connector and distance. These modules are compact and suitable for air freight, but precise identification prevents incorrect purchases.
